Keshavsut biography of martin luther king

Hundreds of people visited the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute on Monday to honor Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and legacy on MLK Day.

BCRI offered free admission on the holiday, giving people a chance to learn more about the Magic City's role in the Civil Rights Movement.

"We just really want to take a chance to walk through the museum and just really take some time to enjoy and pay some homage throughout the place," Johnny Simpkins said.

Simpkins and his family spent the day exploring the museum, learning more about things like King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail" and the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing.

He said as a Birmingham native, it's important for him to share this history with his children.

"We want to know where we've been so that we can know what choices we can make in the future," Simpkins said.
