Ewan Gordon McGregor was born on March 31, 1971, in Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland.
From a young age, he knew he wanted to become an actor and attended the private Morrison Academy alongside his brother Colin. McGregor's father, Jim, was a physical education teacher at the school.
At the age of 16, McGregor left school with the approval of his parents and began working at the Perth Repertory Theatre.
He started off doing menial tasks such as moving scenery but soon joined the troupe of actors and landed his first leading role in the play "A Passage to India." This experience on stage led McGregor to pursue further training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
Shortly before completing his studies, McGregor was offered a role in the television film "Lipstick on Your Collar" by Denis Potter.
